Obama's Cairo Speech--Equality and Tolerance


"I reject the view of some in the West that a woman who chooses to cover her hair is somehow less equal. But I do believe that a woman who is denied an education is denied equality." (Barack Obama--Cairo--June 2009)


President Barack Obama gave a speech in Cairo, Egypt on June 5th, 2009. He stressed that there should be a new understanding and cooperation among all nations to solve problems of inequality, religious intolerance, and the overall health and well-being of all people. He specifically addresses the differences with Islam countries and hopes to build bridges of understanding across the differences of the past era.
